Yes it was a bad bathroom but i wasn't there for a pretty bathroom. The meat is awesome
The washrooms are disgustingly dirty. Please don't subject your child to this unsanitary place
Always love hitting Dunns for the smoked meat. What can you say other than perfect.
Food was quite good! Had the Rueben sandwich which was very fresh and a fair sized serving. The restaurant itself lacks a bit of atmosphere. It's a bit tired and worn and was quite cold when we went (February), but other than that, a decent place to get a hearty meal.
Top-notch service with Spencer! Smoke meat is always the best but OMG the carrot cake was an irruption of flavours all at once.... What an amazing supper with Joan!
I go here late, between 12 and 4 am. The staff are always friendly and the smoked meat is delicious. Ask for it hand carved!
Véronique was absolutely amazing, her warm smile is so genuine and welcoming. She is such a vibrant soul with the best energy. You are very lucky if you get Véronique as your server. (Waffles were also really good 10/10)
Got drawn in by the $6.99 breakfast, but when I ordered at 9:30 I learned the price jumps to $12.99 at 9am. Good breakfast spot overall with fast service. I'd recommend it to people looking for a hearty breakfast in the Byward Market.
Quick acknowledgement on entry, fast service, hot tasty food. Fresh coffee. Value. Quite satisfied
Great food and service. Quickly seated and offered coffee and water. Good selection of breakfast menu items. Portion sizes are large and tasty. One step up from street level to restaraunt.
Great service and food quality was very high
Not what was expected. The food was delicious, however, the Jumbo smoked meat is not jumbo the beer is smaller than their regular draught. Their buffalo chicken sandwich was far from buffalo it was made with a sweet barbecue sauce. Staff is friendly and the place is somewhat clean.
Have never had a bad dining experience here. Food has always been good. Staff is attentive and courteous. Even when extremely busy, still seated quickly, got drinks, and food was served in a timely manner. The iconic smoked meat is still delicious. Location is right in the middle of downtown, which makes parking a nightmare, but the views while dining quite enjoyable, as you are able to enjoy the sites and sounds of the city. Will go again hopefully soon.
Love the breakfast special!! $5 Monday - Friday. I went with a group of six and the service was excellent and fast!
Lots of flies buzzing around all 4 of us! When we wanted the waitress, she was nowhere to be found. Very expensive, too. I got the smoked meat club, and my Dad got the fish n chips. I had a piece of cheesecake, and Dad had a Pepsi. The 2 of us, because we split the bill 2 ways, came to just under $50, +tip. On the street while leaving with one elderly person of 93 years, we were accosted and sworn at by passing beggars. Maybe bad luck, but I don't think the area is a very safe one.
Sadly we went on Canada day. They mistakenly gave us the regular menu. Instead of the Canada day menu. They had signage by their bathroom and outside advertising egg platters for 5.95$. I ordered that. That’s when we were told by the hostess that we had the wrong menus and the chefs were too busy to prepare orders from the regular menu. FYI. the exact same order I wanted was 13.99$ on the Canada menu. I understand that SOME business owners raise the price for Canada day. As a business you need to advertise accordingly and prepare the hostess to deal professionally with customers. The saving grace for us was the waitress completely understood where we were coming from and understood why we left.
I may have come in at a bad day, but the smoked meat was by far the worst I've tasted. Under cooked and rubbery.Smoked meat is supposed to melt in your mouth. You may want to ask for some advice from other franchisees especially in Montreal. The signage and franchises may all be the same, but definitely not the food
Staff are always fast and friendly, good 24hr restaurant in the byward market. Smoke meat is their specialty, a good breakfast. Reasonably priced. The bathroom is in the rear corner downstairs. Large step in front of entrance.
Their breakfasts are very delicious and filling. Their prices are reasonable too. Their famous cheesecake tastes heavenly.
Went there late night and their late menu had just started, with limited options. Ordered their chicken tenders and fries, good portion sizes, typical greasy diner fries and super dry tenders (80 percent coating to 20 percent meat). There aren’t many options open around that time so it made for an okay dinner. The staff on the other hand went way above and beyond to make sure we felt comfortable and welcomed, they were friendly and professional. I’d give five stars for the customer service alone.
Milkshake! My friends and I love their milkshake. They have strawberry, chocolate and vanilla. The prices are good. I am not a fan of their food, but my friends like their Montreal-style smoked and burgers. I rather go there when it is not too crowded. As an ice cream lover, I recommend you try their milkshake!
Smoked meat breakfast Benny hit the spot twice on our short vacation. Quiet never packed. Enjoyed it very much.
A Market breakfast cornerstone, on a corner! 24 hour option is nice for late night post-bar feedings. They gave 1 am to 5 am specials for just those occasions. Menu offering is varied, from all day breakfast to smoked meat sandwiches. I had the Meyers breakfast which had, well everything. So filling. Service was quick, and the waiter was really good. Food came really fast and was a good portion.
Went here for lunch on a business trip. Fast, friendly service. Had the smoked meat poutine. The meat was only ok but the dish was still overall good and better than expected from a 24 hr "smokehouse" would recommened for a nice meal thats easy on the wallet
service a bit slow and nnormally coffee is part of breakfast not charged separately.
I came here after trying Schwartz in Montreal and this meat was a let down. It wasn’t bad, but it was a regular meat sandwich. very juicy, but not brisket-like. The service is really good though, staff is super nice
Enjoyed breakfast very much. It was clean, the service was excellent and the food plentiful and very good. Would return and recommend
Smoked meat sandwich: not bad but if comparing to Montreal, it’s disappointing. Regular fries: not good and to make matters worse, they used old oil (orange dark coloured fries as a result, unacceptable) The redeeming thing was the sandwich/beer combo for $20, and is open late. Service: okay.
The resturant is really great and the food is also testy.
Their fries are excellent. Their matzo ball soup and smoked meat is what you go there for. But their parking is horrible. Their restroom is way downstairs, they don't have drinks as advertised. And their burgers are not cooked to order (you can only get a well done burger....) and they're dry.
I have to say the food and service are both good here. I find it a little pricey for breakfast (usually around $30 - $35 w tip for myself), however, they are open 24 hours which explains the higher prices. I keep going back because it's good. You do get what you pay for.
The food was good but it took a long time to come out, and the restaurant was not very busy at the time. Our waitress was very pleasant and gave great service. There was one waiter responsible for the table beside us, and he actually told the patrons at that table that he forgot they were there! The bathrooms were awful! There was no lock on on stall, another stall had a broken lock, and the last stall had toilet paper overflowing from the toilet. It was very dirty also. Beside our booth there was a pile of rice on the floor. Finally, they could definitely use some hooks installed on the walls beside the booths. We had nowhere to hang out jackets, scarves, tuques etc. We were 4 people in a booth and had to sit on our snowy jackets because there was nowhere to put them.
The food tastes great and the portions are very generous. Since they have Pepsi instead of coca-cola, it means I can get my favourite soft drink Dr.Pepper, which is always a plus for me. Their fries are made from potatoes they cut on site and not from a store bought bag, so their flavour is all the richer. I didn't have desert because I was stuff, but the selection was impressive. I recommend this 24hr a day establishment wholeheartedly.
This was such a great visit a full meal for a good price and delicious smoke meet!
Although the smoked meats good. Rest of the food seems pretty standard/plain. Servers never been properly trained.
Yummy! Those homemade fries at to die for. They are just the right amount of crunch to salt for a delicious snack. The smoke meat sandwiches were also tasty. Thanks for a great night out.
Service is great food does, not stand up to the original duns.I would think this location, follows the original recipes guess not.Prices are fair lots of specials.
Careful with takeout prices. Items very different than sit down menu. Sloppy with the order my toast was forgotten.
We had breakfast here one day since it was just steps from our hotel. We both had $10.79 breakfast--2 eggs any style, a portion of meat (bacon for me. Ham for hubby) 4 slices of buttered toast, plus coffee. As it was not very busy, our orders came quickly. Nothing to write home about, just ok. We would not return, not worth it for the money.
I pick up breakfast here all of the time due to the convenience. The breakfasts are all quite good. Dinner options are a little more hit or miss for me but still, they're hitting more than missing. Prices are a little high but not so much to prevent me from going back. Service that I've gotten has been great, for the most part.
We had the traditional smoked meat sandwich with fries and it was awful. The meat was overcooked, dry and sliced too thick. You could tell it was sliced in the machine instead of by hand were you get those nice little pieces. The bread was stale, dry and cold. My wife took one bite and that was it. Fries were fine but that's not why we went. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. Most likely the last time we'll go to that location.
Was hesitant since the place was empty. But the food was phenomenal! Especially the smoked meat sandwich! Also upgraded my side order of fries to the smoked meat poutine (best decision!!) .We also ordered their spicy crispy chicken burger and added a second patty. So delicious! The service was also great. And if you've never tried this place, YOU'RE MISSING OUT! Left to come back to Toronto and I've been thinking about that sandwich and poutine ever since!
Steak place no more I used to love going to this Dunn’s when I was in Ottawa, they used to advertise a $20 Steak and it was always delicious and great value. This visit the steak is gone and a tiny 6oz thing has replaced it. Their food is still very good, dessert pies were fantastic with ice cream. They still hit that value.Service was really great but all payment machines were down so I was forced to pay cash. Not professional. Wish them well, a long relationship has ended.
The food was excellent as always. The getting in and served my meal was both friendly and expedient. The one and only "complaint" for lack of a better word. Was that my server didn't get my bill to me so I could pay quite fast enough. But, how was he to know I was un a hurry on a Sthrday morning. I would even give a 4 1/2 if I could.
Cold, flavorless slop served in by a dispassionate staff in a charmless dining room. You're better off at one of the other nearby restaurants.
Great staff and amazing smoked meat sandwiches always recommend Dunn's
Great place for breakfast! Our waiter was great! Very friendly.
Absolutely amazing. This is my third time here this week as I am visiting Ottawa. Each time was greeted by a friendly smile and great service. Was given the perfect recommendations, both for a one-person meal and a two-person meal, as well aa instructions on how to store leftovers. Because believe me, if you get the 1lb Montreal Smoked Meat meal for two people, there will still be leftovers. Also had the $4.99 breakfast, chocolate shake and more.
egg on toast with yogurt. love the yogurt and a lots of fruits, seems really healthy. but the egg on toast is a bit dry
I stopped off on Christmas Eve late night and thank goodness it was open. The smoke meat sandwiches are top!! If you like Deli particularly smoked meat sandwiches I would highly recommend you check out this place.
It was pretty good! I'll definitely come back.
